About the event

Jordan Mission has invited a well-known organistion called My Wishes, to present you this amazing programme. This presentation is for those looking to start their own organisation or tech start-up now or at some point in the future. It will examine how you might obtain the relevant experience required and research your chosen area. It will provide tools and ways in which you can develop your idea and turn it into something tangible.

The presentation will last for approximately 1.5 hours. Ideas, ways of working and methodologies you might want to consider exploring will be discussed. This includes collaborating, developing a brand and obtaining support from a current or future employer

James’s talk will highlight the importance of technology when developing a personal brand, employability and obtaining work. He will share his screen in realtime and demonstrate how to alter and refine your digital footprint (online presence). He will discuss and demo tools for purchasing a website domain (aka a website URL) and setting up a Wordpress website or blog. An overview as to how to develop your value proposition, utilise social networks within a work context, positioning your organisation to the needs of those you serve, launching your product or service, pivoting your business, utilising technology for marketing and collaborating with others will also be explored.

The presentation will conclude with information about the logistical and legal requirements when setting up an organisation (business, charity, social enterprise/CIC or as a sole trader).

About the organiser

Jordan Mission delivers recreational, educational, and training programs for young adults in East London, UK and for underprivileged children and young adults in a small village named Badja in Togo, West Africa.
There are several great charitable organisations within the United Kingdom and Togo delivering programs to support young adults and children. However, what differentiates Jordan Mission is not only its historical background, but also its broad remit and its commitment to sustainable causes.

Our programs envision to improve life skills, confidence, self-esteem and mental health and wellbeing.
In Newham, we focus on young adults including BAME who are at a critical point in their lives and struggling to find guidance and information for employment, apprenticeships, or training. Therefore, our programs are designed so they can get the most out of our workshops and achieve their full potential.

About James

James Norris uses technology, research and creativity to engage with different audiences and demographics. For the last 10+ years, James’ work has focused on improving society’s attitudes and behaviours around planning for their future self, their possessions and safeguarding their loved ones.

James is the founder of the future planning platform, MyWishes. This application empowers the general public to share their goals and future wishes. MyWishes users can also publish non-sensitive information (for example using a Bucket List) if they wish to do so.

In 2015 James founded The Digital Legacy Association. The Digital Legacy Association is the global professional organisation dedicated to raising awareness around the importance of making plans for our digital lives (online photos, purchased media, cryptocurrency etc). Making plans in advance reduces the likelihood that digital assets become inaccessible in the future.

James consults various governmental and non-governmental organisations across the globe. He often contributes and provides thought leadership on TV, online, print and in scientific journals. Appearances and publications range from BBC Breakfast, Morning Live and Channel 4 News to Vice magazine and Jon Richardson’s Ultimate Worrier.

James was a regular lecturer & honorary research associate at University College London (UCL) before he launched MyWishes. In this role he supported students and tech companies within the UCL ecosystem wanting to set up or develop an existing technology start-up.

We expect this presentation to be oversubscribed so please book it early should you wish to attend. If you reserve a ticket and cannot make it please cancel it using Eventbrite.
