If you have had diabetes for less than 6 years, there are lots of free programmes you can join.
Type 2 remission program
Type 2 diabetes remission is when your blood sugar levels return to a safe, non-diabetes level long-term, without the need for glucose-lowering medication. It stops diabetes in its tracks and boosts your chances of a healthy future.
When you are in remission the symptoms of your diabetes are on pause, so is any new damage it can do to you.
NHS Oviva Type 2 Diabetes Remission Pathway
Oviva has partnered with the NHS to deliver a programme for people who are overweight and living with type 2 diabetes. Formerly called the NHS Low Calorie Diet, this 12 month programme will support you to lose weight using a low calorie diet, improve your blood glucose levels, reduce your medications, and potentially put your type 2 diabetes into remission.
NEWHAM DIABETES SUPPORT CLUB
The Newham Diabetes Support Club will be supported by health professionals providing advice and tips on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle to aid you in managing or reducing your risk of developing diabetes.
Newham Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service for all ages
Supporting people with diabetes to develop expertise and knowledge in their condition to get the most out of life. This service accepts residents of all ages.
This service is non English speaking friendly, accessible for people with learning disabilities an is a wheelchair friendly service.
The Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service also provides education to patients at risk of getting diabetes (pre-diabetes) and those already diagnosed of having diabetes.
To get a referral, please ask your GP.
NHS DIGITAL WEIGHT MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
The NHS Digital Weight Management Programme supports adults living with obesity who also have a diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension or both, to manage their weight and improve their health.
