Newham Health Equity Toolkit
The Newham Health Equity toolkit has been built to support service commissioners, designers and providers to analyse how equitable a service is. Our tools will help you to make small improvements to achieve real impact in improving health inequalities
Why was the Health Equity Toolkit created?
Our ‘four steps to improving equity’ model helps individuals, teams, and organisations through the processes needed to understand health inequalities and implement effective service improvements. This model combines the activity and thinking from other change frameworks, including quality improvement methods used by the NHS, but makes this even easier to understand and follow.
Tools to support this model include:
The ART Framework
Use to – review or design a service by analysing how Accessible, Relevant and Trusted it is.
Does It Look Like Newham? (DILLN)
Use to – generate a quick snapshot of the expected makeup of a service by sex, age and ethnicity. This helps services to easily compare the actual service user profile to the local population, to see whether certain groups are over or underrepresented.
Health Equity Route map
Use to – undertake a comprehensive maturity matrix review as an individual, service or organisation. This review increases awareness and understanding of health inequalities and creates an actionable plan.
