Newham has a thriving LGBTQIA+ community.
From pubs and cafés, bookshops and museums, to voluntary sector organisations supporting LGBTQIA+ wellbeing, there are many places you can visit and groups you can join.
Pride and History Month Events
Newham has been the host of UK Black Pride and Forest Gayte Pride run events every June.
A full programme of events are run to celebrate LGBT+ History Month – these events are published here every year.

Queer Newham
Queer Newham is a local initiative to raise awareness on gender equality and support the well-being of the LGBTQA+ community in Newham (east London).
East London LGBT Seniors
Coffee and chat group for older LGBTQ+ in East London, identifying specific issues affecting older LGBTQ+ which can be fed back to service providers such as isolation and depression. Creating a directory of safe places where isolated or depressed elders can engage in creative activities which promote a sense of wellbeing.
She Her They Them
SheHerTheyThem is a safe, accessible and open community building initiative for queer women, nonbinary, trans, intersex and gender nonconforming individuals in Newham and the surrounding East London area.
Gay's The Word Bookshop
Gay's The Word is the UK's oldest LGBT bookshop and a touchstone for the broader LGBT community. The bookshop was set up in January 1979 by a group of gay socialists as a community space where all profits were funnelled back into the business.
London LGBTQ+ Community Centre
The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre is a sober, intersectional community centre and café where all LGBTQ+ people are welcome, supported, can build connections and can flourish. Our vision is for a more connected, belonging and thriving LGBTQ+ community in London.

elop is a holistic lesbian and gay centre that offers a range of social, emotional and support services to LGBT communities, and our core services include counselling and young people’s services.

Our team has decades of experience in supporting LGBT+ people who are victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, so-called conversion therapies, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and other forms of abuse.
